What VoteSpree is, what it is not, and who is responsible for what.
1. What VoteSpree is
VoteSpree is a public discovery marketplace for contests. Organizers create contests and list them on a shared public feed; members of the public browse those contests and vote in them, free or paid, according to the terms each organizer sets.
VoteSpree is software. It does not run contests, select winners, award prizes, or vouch for any organizer. Every contest on the platform is the responsibility of the organizer who published it.
2. Money & custody
VoteSpree is not a payment service provider, an escrow agent or a stakeholder of contest funds. Payments for votes are processed by Paystack and split at the point of sale: the organizer's share settles directly to the organizer's own Paystack subaccount, and VoteSpree's fee settles to VoteSpree. At no point does VoteSpree receive, hold, control or direct the organizer's share.
It follows that VoteSpree cannot delay, withhold or release an organizer's revenue, and cannot resolve a dispute by moving money. Chargebacks are debited from the organizer's subaccount by Paystack under Paystack's own terms.
| Money flow | Who receives it | Held by VoteSpree? |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | VoteSpree | Yes — our own revenue |
| Organizer share of a vote | Organizer subaccount | Never |
| Platform cut of a vote | VoteSpree | Yes — split at source |
| Prize to a winner | Paid by the organizer | Never — not our obligation |
3. Voting is not a game of chance
The outcome of a contest is determined solely by the number of votes each contestant receives. There is no random element, no draw, no stake returned to voters and no prize payable to a voter for having voted. A voter buys the ability to influence a public result, not a chance of winning anything.
Organizers may not offer voters any reward, refund or entry into a draw in consideration of voting. Doing so changes what the product legally is, and is grounds for immediate delisting.
4. Listing fees
A listing fee is charged once, when a contest is published to the public discovery feed. It buys placement, not a service outcome: it is not refundable if the contest is cancelled, receives no votes, or is delisted for breach of these terms.
The fee exists to protect the feed. A contest nobody was willing to pay to list does not reach the public page.
5. Organizer obligations
By publishing a contest you take on the following, entirely and without recourse to VoteSpree:
6. Verification & KYC
Identity verification is optional. An unverified organizer may create and run contests, including paid ones. Verification grants the public “Verified Organizer” badge and eligibility for featuring; it is a signal to voters, not a licence to operate.
VoteSpree does not represent that an unverified organizer is untrustworthy, nor that a verified one will deliver a prize.
7. Refunds & cancellation
Votes are final once counted and are not refundable, except where a contest is cancelled by its organizer or delisted by VoteSpree for breach of these terms.
Where a contest is cancelled, paid votes are refunded to the card they came from and are debited from the organizer's subaccount. The organizer's listing fee is not returned.
8. Integrity & delisting
VoteSpree monitors for vote manipulation. Where votes are suspected of being manipulated they are held and excluded from the standings pending review, with a written reason recorded and shown to the organizer and the affected voters. They are never silently deleted.
Excluding a vote from the standings is separate from refunding it. VoteSpree can do the first because it controls the platform; it cannot unilaterally do the second, because it never held the money.
9. Deleting your account
You can delete your account from Settings once you have no live contest and no unsettled payment. Deletion starts a 7-day grace period; signing back in during that period cancels it.
Past results stay published — they are a public record other people relied on. Your leaving must not change who won.
