What we collect, why, and what we do not do with it.
1. What we collect
To hold an account: your name, email address, and optionally a phone number and organizer name. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
To count a vote: which contestant you voted for, when, and a one-way hash of your IP address. The hash is a fraud signal — it cannot be reversed to recover the address.
To take a payment: Paystack processes the card. VoteSpree stores the transaction reference, amount, channel, and the card's issuing-bank prefix and last four digits. We never see or store a full card number.
2. Why we collect it
To run your account and show you the contests you voted in; to count votes accurately and detect manipulation; to send you transactional email about contests you are involved in; and to meet record-keeping obligations for payments.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your voting history to target advertising.
3. Who else sees it
Paystack, to process payments. Brevo, to send transactional email. Our hosting and database providers, to run the service. Each processes data on our instructions only.
Organizers see aggregate vote counts for their contest, never a list of who voted for whom.
4. How long we keep it
Account data until you delete your account, then through a 7-day grace period. Payment records for the statutory retention period under an anonymised identifier. Votes are retained as anonymous counts indefinitely, because published standings are a public record.
5. Your rights
You can access, correct or export your data, and delete your account, from Settings. Where deletion is blocked it is because a contest is live or money is still moving — the blocker is shown to you with a link to the fix.
